The Art of Maximalism
While minimalism captured our hearts through its simplistic and unified outlook,2020 epitomise the trend of maximalism instead. Minimalism is all about 'more-is-less' philosophy, Maximalism follows 'more-is-more' . Maximalism is about expressing your own individuality. This is a type of trend/look where everything is exaggerated, the bigger the better, think oversized ruffles, fringing that touches the floor, materials with loads of texture. This trend isn't for the faint hearted, it's for the ones who are bold and expressive with their style.
Now I am not saying that minimalism is over, or that it eventually will be , but I personally seem to have a lot more fun with fashion again.
Like mixing prints, colour blocking, adding ruffle here, there and kind of everywhere. If you are afraid of mixing colours and can't make bold choices don't worry because we can play with some accessories. Accessories are the key ! Funky sunglasses, large earrings, colourful bags, extreme shoes can also make your look bold and maximal.
One styling tip I would like to share is to purchase one item/product that truly speaks volumes. That way even the dullest of outfit will be instantly lifted. For me it's these earrings and heels , it encapsulates everything I love. My way to take on the maximalism trend is to give those loud pieces space to breathe, whether through colour use or baring some skin. As you can see that I have used a combination of a classic black sheer top and a pink ruffle skirt so that those statement earrings give us some maximal look.
So what are you waiting for. Throw your rulebook out this new year ! You want to wear sequence on a Wednesday to go food shopping , do it. Trust me, it makes everyone happy and most importantly you.
